Kerry’s difficult to define. His performance and recording credits alone sprawl from jazz (Juno winners Altered Laws<\/strong>), fusion (New Noakes Quartet, Crash<\/strong>), rap (Sweatshop Union<\/strong>), operatic pop (The Tenors<\/strong>), country (k.d. lang<\/strong>), variety (Bob Hope, Leon Bibb, Pat Boone)<\/strong>, “pops” (Vancouver Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>), klezmer (Olam<\/strong>), \u201cBuddha Bar\u201d lounge\/chillout (Astrid<\/strong>), Afro-Cuban (World Music Award winner\u00a0Gabriel Palatchi Trio, <\/strong>the Fito Garcia Bass Ensemble<\/strong>), Balkan\/Flamenco (Tambura Rasa,\u00a0<\/strong>featuring\u00a0the Black Dog String Quartet<\/strong>) funk, R&B, reggae, Brazilian, musical theatre and much more.<\/p>\n

Kerry also leads Steelin’ in The Years<\/strong>, a loving tribute to the music of Steely Dan.<\/p>\n

Kerry\u2019s eclectic production work has ranged from acoustic folk (Michael Friedman, <\/b>Random Acts Of Tuning<\/em>, 2016) to the electronic lounge\/chillout of Astrid<\/strong> (Red Umbrella<\/em> 2005 and\u00a0Full Life<\/em> 2012)<\/em>\u00a0and R&B\/jazz with Steve Hilliam<\/strong> (Inside The Lines,<\/em> 2008). His work for film and TV has included music editing for the Cartoon Network\u2019s<\/strong> Ed, Edd and Eddy,<\/em> and Dead Heat <\/em>with Kiefer Sutherland; \u00a0his \u201cmiscellaneous musical duties\u201d have even included the creation of charts and transcriptions for Randy Bachman\u2019s<\/strong> DVD\/book release Every Song Tells A Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n

as educator<\/h2>\n

Kerry’s love for teaching began nearly forty years ago as he rose from private bass instructor at a local music store to being asked to teach Electric Bass at Capilano College <\/strong>(now Capilano University). <\/strong>There, he would create Cap’s first jury criteria for B.Mus in Bass Performance (’92). His private bass students have themselves gone on to become the respected practitioners and educators of the next generation. While covering a colleague’s class, Kerry discovered a love for classroom teaching, and since then he has taught numerous post-secondary courses on musical topics such as Music Theory, Theory of Record Production and Electronic Music, as well as specialized courses in software platforms like Ableton Live<\/strong>, Reason<\/strong>, Reaper<\/strong>, Logic<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Sibelius.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Along with bassists Laurence Mollerup<\/strong>, Chris Tarry<\/strong> and Andre Lachance<\/strong>, he helped co-found the Vancouver Bass Conference<\/strong> (a 3 day “bass boot camp\u201d). He has been an early and enthusiastic adopter of online learning, collaborating on Logic Networks<\/em><\/strong> (a third-party manual for Logic 2.6<\/strong>) in the early 1990s, and was a founding contributor to Activebass.com<\/strong> where his online bass lessons garnered a staggering 1,000,000+ hits and consistently remained\u00a0amongst Activebass\u2019s \u201cTop 10 Most Popular Lessons\u201d out of 9000+ for over a decade.<\/p>\n
