This has become a pretty much yearly event now and is always a high spot in my gig year. Alfie’s one of my favourite Canadian vocalists (you’ll remember Alfie’s voice from hits like “Overload” from “Dirty Dancing”, “We Should Be Lovers”, “Passion”, “Orlanda”, and many others). The band is uniformly excellent, and the venue is my absolute favourite venue in the Lower Mainland, my beloved Blue Frog. And that’s not just because they use my old Sadowsky cabinet as the house bass cabinet (which makes me a very happy bassist) but because everything’s always pretty much perfect: the sound (Pat Glover, nailing it as always); the vibe; the friendly crew; the great audiences. A practically perfect venue (and I’ve seen a few venues in my career).
